IP Security Cameras -
IP Security cameras are security cameras that have built-in video encoders and network cards in the camera, so that they can stream video over a normal CAT-5 Network cable to an NVR (Network Video Recorder). These cameras are becoming increasingly popular for business security camera installations, as they provide easier installation than standard analog CCTV Cameras. With Network IP Cameras, you simply run a single CAT-5 cable out to your camera, and the camera is supplied with power from a standard PoE router and sends video across your network.
IP Security cameras come in 2 major varieties: VGA IP security cameras and MegaPixel IP Security Cameras.
VGA IP Security Cameras -
These IP security cameras provide video at 640×480 resolution to your Network video recorder. The only benefit to these VGA IP cameras over standard analog security cameras is the fact that they do not require a coaxial video cable with seperate power. Keep in mind that good quality cctv cameras and DVR Cards will record at 720×480 resolution, which is slightly better than the resolution of VGA IP security cameras.
The VGA IP security cameras are also generally more expensive than traditional analog cctv security camera systems, which is why these cameras are not always the best choice for a business security camera installation.
MegaPixel IP Security Cameras -
MegaPixel IP Security cameras, like our Arecont Vision line of IP cameras, provide a higher resolution of video recording than was ever possible with standard analog cctv cameras. These MegaPixel high definition cameras range from 1.3 MegaPixel through 8.0 MegaPixel resolution, providing up to 24 times the resolution of a standard Analog camera. These cameras really make it worthwhile to step into the Digital IP Camera age, as these cameras can provide forensic after the fact zooming capabilities, and wider coverage areas with a single camera than was ever possible before.
