View your Security Cameras from your iPhone
One of the most popular questions that we receive from customers on a daily basis when they are looking for a home or business security camera system, is “Can I view my security cameras from my iPhone?” The answer to that question is Yes, but what features you get depends on the type of security camera system that you select. We have several types of camera systems which support iPhone viewing. The first is our Standalone DVR systems. These DVRs provide remote viewing from your iPhone to stream live video onto your phone. The next type of system is our Alnet PC-Based DVR systems. These systems consist of a DVR Card and software that installs into your PC and allow for greater features from your iPhone including Live video from your camera(s), playback pre-recorded footage, control of inputs and outputs, and even view of multiple cameras at once. The Alnet PC-Based systems have a much greater amount of processing power than standalone DVRS, which is why they can reprocess the video better, for better features remotely. Can I use my old cameras with a newer DVR?
Probably one of our most frequent questions that we receive from customers via email and over the phone, is ‘Can I use my old cameras with a newer DVR?’
Many homeowners and business owners are looking to upgrade their system to a newer style PC-Based DVR with DVR Card or a Standalone DVR that will allow them to view security cameras from their BlackBerry, Android PDA phones, iPhone, iPad or Windows Mobile PDA phones. Our Standalone DVRs and PC-Based DVR Cards allow for this level of remote viewing.
To answer this frequent question: In MOST cases, YES you can use your existing cameras. As long as your current cameras plug into your Time-Lapse VCR or DVR with a BNC style connector (shown to the right), then you will be able to use these cameras with our Standalone DVRs and PC-Based DVR systems. If your system instead has a DVR that uses a proprietary DIN connection, then these cameras would have to first be adapted to a BNC connector prior to use…however these systems are becoming increasingly rare. So for the fast majority of systems, you will be able to use your existing security cameras and simply upgrade your DVR to provide remtoe viewing capabilities.
